Jiří Žák

Currently studying in Tomáš Vaněk’s Intermedia Studio III at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he originally studied sculpture under Jaroslav Róna (2010–2012). He has also engaged in study exchanges at the University of Arts and Design in Karlsruhe (Studio of Isaac Julien and Studio of Vadim Fishkin) in Germany and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (guest professor Ruth Noack), and did a one-year exchange at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), where he studied sculpture under Dominik Lang. He is the winner of the 2015 EXIT Award, in 2015 he was a member of the Galerie 207 organizing team at UMPRUM, and he is member of the “studio without a teacher.”

In Jiří Žák's early work, Second Person Singular (2015), he works with fiction only in part – he explores the possibility of presenting a real image as well as the reasons not to take advantage of this possibility: “After all, no medium is a neutral channel for transmitting information.
